¶ FIELD NOTES · SETIABUDI · CENTRAL JAKARTA

Make friends inSetiabudi.

Setiabudi is where a surprising share of corridor Jakarta actually sleeps: kos rooms and low streets wedged between Jl. Sudirman and Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said. Which makes it the rare central neighbourhood where a weekly table is a walk, not a commute.

What is Hey Sini?

Hey Sini

noun

Hey Sini is a weekly social club for making friends as an adult in Jakarta. It seats five compatible people near each other at the same table, on the same night, every week for six weeks, and then the table becomes theirs. It is friendship-first, not a dating app, and it opens neighbourhood by neighbourhood, starting around Senopati.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Why a Setiabudi table.

On the map Setiabudi is the pocket between the two big corridors, Sudirman on one side and Rasuna Said on the other. Inside the pocket is a real neighbourhood: kos rooms, warungs, laundries and back streets the tower directory forgets, with Setiabudi One doing after-work food hall duty and the MRT stopping at Setiabudi Astra.

That mix is the point. The people who live here mostly moved for a first or second job, walk to work, and know the corridor better than they know anyone in it. Five of you, a few streets apart, one night a week: it is the shortest possible distance between where you sleep and an actual circle.

WHO IT IS FOR

Made for Setiabudi, specifically.

  • First-jobbers in a Setiabudi or Karet kos, walking distance to the towers
  • Office workers on Sudirman or Rasuna Said who want a local night, not another commute
  • Remote workers doing laps of the same three coffee shops
  • People back from overseas who landed central for the job
  • Anyone whose entire social calendar is currently colleagues

HOW IT WORKS HERE

One match, then the same five, every week.

Getting there
The MRT stops at Setiabudi Astra on Jl. Sudirman, the LRT Jabodebek runs along Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said, and half the neighbourhood simply walks.
The rhythm
Five compatible people near you, the same night, every week for six weeks. We re-seat you if it is not right.
The cost
Free to join. A founding seat is Rp 49rb/mo, locked for life. You pay your own bill at the table.

A Setiabudi table lands in the pocket itself or just off it: a long table near Setiabudi One, a quiet spot on the streets between the corridors. We suggest the place via Google Maps, the five of you confirm it, and we never book the venue or take venue money.

REAL PLACES TO MEET

Rooms in Setiabudi that work for five.

Each read one way: could five people who just met hear each other, fit around one table, and want to stay? We suggest, we never book.

SETIABUDI QUESTIONS

Before you sit down.

Setiabudi or Kuningan? On the map they overlap.

They do. Pick the name that matches where your evening actually is: closer to the Sudirman side is Setiabudi, closer to Rasuna Said and Mega Kuningan is Kuningan. Either way you are counted with the people genuinely near you.

I finish work late. Is there a table that fits?

You set the night and the format. A coffee table after the macet is the lowest-pressure start, and the table only ever happens on the one night all five of you said you could keep.
