Why a Carlton table.
Carlton runs on Lygon Street: the old Little Italy strip, the late-night gelato, the cafes that have poured coffee for three generations of students. The University of Melbourne sits right on its edge, RMIT is a short tram down, and the Carlton Gardens give the whole suburb a green middle.
All of which means Carlton is thick with people your age and thin on ways to see the same ones twice. The trams (1, 6 and 19 run straight through) make it one of the easiest suburbs in Melbourne to keep a standing table, because nobody has an excuse about getting there.
