Why a Cikini table.
Jl. Cikini Raya carries most of it: Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) with its theatres, the planetarium and the Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ) inside, the art-deco Metropole cinema anchoring one end of the street, and coffee houses that were pouring long before anyone called them third places. The KRL stops at Cikini station right on the strip.
The crowd is students, performers, civil servants and people who chose old streets over mall corridors, and it turns over constantly: a cohort graduates, a production wraps, everyone scatters. Six weeks at the same table is how you keep five of them. Gondangdia is one KRL stop away and Manggarai, the everything-interchange, is one stop the other way.
